The on- and off-ramps between Interstate 5 and Mercer Street in Seattle will be closed this weekend as part of the project to fix the so-called “Mercer Mess.”
The ramps will close 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. The Seattle Department of Transportation says road crews will install new drainage facilities, repair the off-ramp roadway base, repave and stripe the off-ramp, install guardrails on both ramps and continue installing sign bridges across the ramps.
The I-5 on-ramp at University Street will also be closed. Fairview Avenue North will be restricted between Republican Street and Eastlake Avenue East to freight and local access, and Mercer Street will be closed to through traffic between Westlake Avenue North and Fairview Avenue North.
Detour routes will be signed on roadways and may be heavily used, particularly Denny Way both eastbound and westbound. Here is a look at the detour routes. .
