SEATTLE -- With just a week to go before tolling begins on the 520 bridge, an overwhelming number of people don't even have tolling accounts set up.
It's now a mad dash online as people try and sign up.
With 100,000 cars estimated to cross the bridge every day, WSDOT reports 4 our ot 5 drivers don't have accounts, and 15 percent of those accounts haven't been activated.
"We actually want to get from that 20-percent up to 50% by that opening day which is a week from today," said Craig Stone, WSDOT's tolling director.
Peak tolls are $3.50 for drivers with Good to Go passes, and $5.00 for those without.
The other question is how many drivers will avoid 520 and take I-90 or drive around the lake instead?
WSDOT estimates about 20 percent of drivers will take I-90, about 5 percent will use SR 522 through Bothell and Kenmore, and 15 percent may go to Metro or some other form of carpooling.
