BELLEVUE, Wash. – Washington's Department of Transportation identified damage and corrosion to the SR 520 bridge's cable connection and will perform emergency repairs starting early Friday.
The work will be done underwater on Friday, March 9. WSDOT said the bridge will remain completely open during the day despite the repairs. However, a previously scheduled weekend closure will continue on as planned from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, March 12.
The damage is presumed to have been caused by weather and recent windstorms. WSDOT said the repairs will focus on a steel plate and pin connection on the south side of the bridge at the anchor to the westernmost pontoon. WSDOT said the pin has slid halfway out of position and another storm could move it completely out of position.
The damage was discovered by divers, and is estimated to cost about $60,000.

Crews will also close the Bellevue Way Northeast overpass from 11 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday while crews set girders.
