Driver found dead inside overturned fuel truck
06:30 PM PST on Saturday, December 31, 2005
SEATTLE - The driver of a fuel truck that overturned Saturday afternoon was found dead inside. It's believed he may have suffered some sort of medical emergency behind the wheel and died before the accident. No other injuries were reported. The accident happened around noon. Haz-mat crews and BP staff were at the scene. Some 4,500 gallons of fuel must be siphoned from the tanks before the truck can be removed from the freeway. Removing the fuel has been difficult because the drainage valves were damaged in the accident. KING The BP petroleum truck overturned, killing the driver. Nothing has leaked yet but the state Department of Ecology has poured sand on the ground just in case. The identity of the 47-year-old truck driver was not being released yet but he is known to have been a Washington resident. As of 6:30 p.m. all lanes of northbound I-405 between Interstate 90 and Coal Creek Parkway remained blocked. Traffic was being diverted from I-405 northbound to I-90 eastbound and westbound. Ramps to northbound I-405 from I-90 were closed. There was no access to northbound I-405 from either eastbound or westbound I-90.
