SEATTLE - The National Weather Service forecasts much colder temperatures this weekend in the state with the chance of snow in the Seattle area and single-digit lows in parts of Eastern Washington.

Forecasters say the weather pattern will change Friday as a cold front moves in.

KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott said Friday night into Saturday is when the cold air will push in, turning the rain showers to snow in the lowlands of the Puget Sound area.

"It's still a little too early to say what the accumulations will be like, though overall it looks like it would be fairly light," said KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott.

The front will bring snow to the Olympics and Cascades.

Marriott said the showers will wrap up Saturday morning.

“With clearing and cold weather for later Saturday  and on into the first part of next week,” he said.

Arctic air behind the front will cause the lowest temperatures this weekend in Eastern Washington, with highs in the teens and lows in single digits. Winds will cause areas of drifting snow.

Marriott said areas of Southwest Washington could see some flurries on Sunday.
