Investigators: Schemer could head to prison

06:20 AM PST on Tuesday, December 12, 2006

By SUSANNAH FRAME / KING 5 News

SEATTLE - A man the KING 5 Investigators exposed last year of running an illegal home selling scheme could be headed to federal prison.

On Friday in Seattle federal court, a jury convicted former mortgage broker Ekram Almoussa of one count of conspiracy and eight counts of wire fraud.

After a seven month investigation last year, the KING 5 Investigators exposed how Almoussa bought homes in Seattle and on the Eastside for cheap, then sold them for grossly inflated prices, sometimes in a matter of hours.

He did this by lying to banks and illegally paying off people along the way. The KING 5 investigation led the FBI to launch their own case.

Almoussa could face up to 20 years in prison. Two other indicted business partners pleaded guilty and testified against Almoussa at trial.
