Missing father and children.

PORTLAND, Ore. - A San Francisco couple and their two young children were missing Friday, six days after they were last reported seen on a holiday trip to the Pacific Northwest.

James Kim, 35, a senior editor for CNET Networks Inc., his wife, Kati, 30, and children, Penelope, 4, and Sabine, 7 months, left for a trip to Seattle on Nov. 17, according to Oregon State Police.

The family was last seen in Portland on Nov. 25 when they stopped to see friends.

The Kims were planning to stay at the Tu Tu Tun Lodge at Gold Beach on the Oregon Coast on their way back to San Francisco. They had called a hotel to have a key left for them because they planned to arrive late.

But, San Francisco police said, the family never picked up the key or checked in. Authorities have determined that the cell phones and credit cards of the Kim family have not been used since the Nov. 25.

And co-workers at CNET, a San Francisco company that operates technology news and product review Web sites, said they had not heard recently from James Kim, who kept in touch daily by phone or e-mail.

"We're all upset," Sarah Cain, a co-worker, told KGW-TV in Portland.

Authorities searched for information from the public but said they got only vague tips, Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said Friday. They hoped for a break based on the personalized California license plate of the family's 2005 silver Saab station wagon: DOESF.

Oregon State Police troopers have been checking State Highways that run from Interstate 5 to the Oregon coast and along the coastline looking for any sign of the family, their vehicle, and any indication that the vehicle may have traveled off the highways.

In addition, troopers checked hotels and resorts on the south coast for any information to help in this case.

Curry County Sheriff's Office was searching the region using 4x4 vehicles but were limited by snow and icy conditions.

The Oregon National Guard Air Unit who has deployed a Blackhawk helicopter to conduct an aerial search of roads in the Bear Camp Road area.

Their family has also hired helicopters to search the area.

Kati Kim's father, Phil Fleming, who lives in New Mexico, told KGW that he and his wife are waiting by the phone for news.

"I don't know if there's much we can do right now but stay at home base," Fleming said.
