Nickelsville is expected to begin moving from its current location at the University Christian Church on Tuesday or Wednesday.

SEATTLE - The homeless encampment known as "Knickelsville" is moving to a new location in Seattle's University District.

Campers will relocate to the University Congregational United Church of Christ's parking lot, located on the corner of 15th and 45th. The congregation voted almost 2 to 1 on Sunday to host the encampment.

Nickelsville will be allowed to stay for up to 90 days. It's anticipated they'll begin moving from their current location, at the nearby University Christian Church, on Tuesday or Wednesday. Campers have been staying on the University Christian Church's parking lot since October, but the church had asked them to leave.

"We've really enjoyed having them," University Christian Church spokesperson Janetta Cravens-Boyd said. "Nicklesville has done everything we've asked them to do."

The camp's name is a jab at Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels. This will be its fourth move since campers were evicted by the city from an industrial park in South Seattle in September.

University Congregational Church estimates sponsoring Nickelsville for three months will cost between $15,000 and $20,000.

Some are opposed to the move.

"At this prominent corner in the University District, what happens if people don't shop in the University District because of that presence?" University Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Brian Imes said.
