Many areas escape snowfall, but subfreezing temps are on the way

SEATTLE - Western Washington dodged the snow bullet Wednesday night with most of the energy from an area of low pressure dropping to the south.

Temperatures overnight stayed mainly in the mid- to upper-30s with a few pockets below the freezing mark.

Clouds lifted at sunrise to reveal new snow on the Olympics.

KING 5 Meteorologist Chris Warren said temperatures will drop Thursday and Friday.

"Daytime highs north of Everett will be in the 30s, with lows in the low 20s," he said.

Arctic air moving in from Canada may also trigger a snow shower or two over Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan Counties.

If this cold air remains in place Saturday as the next weather system starts to move into Western Washington, we may see some snow in the lower elevations, said Warren.

Even more changes are on the way for the beginning of next week. Temperatures will warm up considerably.

"Daytime temperatures will warm up by 15 degrees, if not more," said Warren.

That will bring the possibility of some river flooding.
