Parade, lights mark start of holiday season in Seattle
02:59 PM PST on Friday, November 28, 2008
SEATTLE – The annual Macy's Holiday Parade wove through downtown streets this morning, marking the start of the holiday season in Seattle.
This year's parade featured 25 floats and 400 participants. Most floats were made of balloons, and volunteers worked overtime filling the 50,000 balloons needed for the job.
Traditional floats made appearances in the event, including a giant gingerbread house, huge Frango boxes and Pacific Northwest Ballet's Nutcracker. New floats this year included a Christmas puppy, a kitty cat and a poinsettia.

The parade was to conclude with a confetti snowstorm to welcome Santa Claus.
The 20th annual tree-lighting ceremony takes place Friday afternoon at Westlake Center. Events start at 5 p.m., with the lighting of the tree, the Space Needle and the KING 5 tower set for 5:25 p.m.
If you can't make it down there, you can catch all the fun on KING 5 or on KING5.com.
