SEATTLE – A cat that had been stuck on top of a 40-foot utility pole in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood for days was rescued this morning.

Gabe Lubbess' beloved cat, affectionately known as Kitty, climbed up the pole Friday and refused to budge.

People in the neighborhood think Kitty may have been chased up the pole by a coyote and was too scared to come down.

On Monday, 13-year-old Gabe said he'd tried everything to get his cat to come down.

"We leave the window open and we can hear him crying all night," he said.

"It's just constant, constant crying, and it's gotten louder every night," said Rich Hansen.

Gabe and his family had tried every city agency and all were sympathetic, but none had offered help.

"I just hope someone can understand they can shut off the power for a few minutes to get this taken care of," Hansen said Monday.

KING 5 News was told by City Light that crews had been to the pole twice and the cat did not appear in danger of being electrocuted. They said cutting the power to that pole meant cutting electricity to hundreds of homes. They believed when the cat gets hungry enough it will come down on its own.

"All I hear is he'll come down when he's ready," said Hansen. "Who knows when that is and whether he'll be dead or alive."

This morning, City Light was able to reach Kitty without cutting the power. The frightened feline sped off when he hit the ground.

Kitty finally came back home at about 9 p.m.
