Car prowls spike in Thurston Co.

11:01 AM PDT on Friday, October 10, 2008

KING5.com Staff

SEATTLE – Thurston County is trying to stop a dramatic rise in the number of car prowls.

Across the county, vehicle prowls are up 20 percent over last year. To break that down even further, there were 40 vehicle prowls between Sept. 4 and Oct. 10, 2007. Compare that to 98 vehicle prowls between Sept. 1 and Oct. 10 of this year.

In Grand Mound and Rochester, there have been at least 21 car prowls in just the past eight days.

A spokesperson with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says since no arrests have been made, they can’t attribute it directly to the struggling economy, but it’s obvious something is causing the prowls to skyrocket.
