Zina Linnik murder suspect pleads not guilty to rape charges
10:08 PM PDT on Thursday, July 19, 2007
TACOMA – Thursday night, residents of Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood held a candlelight procession. It started at the elementary school where Zina Linnik went to school and ended at the alley behind her home where her family last saw her alive. Participants sang and prayed together calling Zina a hero for helping bring a suspect to justice.
Her family was in court earlier Thursday to see her suspected killer for the first time.
Terapon Adhahn, the man suspected of killing 12-year-old Zina Linnik of Tacoma, pleaded not guilty Thursday on charges he violently raped two other girls.
It was Adhahn's first court appearance since his arrest July 8. Bail was set at more than $2 million.
Adhahn pleaded not guilty to one count of kidnapping and three counts of first degree child rape for the May 31, 2000 kidnapping and rape of the girl who was found duct taped to a tree at Fort Lewis. Court documents indicate DNA evidence taken from Adhahn identifies him as the "John Doe" in that case.
The victim of that attack and her family were in court. Her mother did not mince words.
"My blood went cold. I wanted to go through the door and get him," said Nancy Rasmussen. "He's the biggest monster that was ever created. He needs to be taken to general population and let him get what he was given."
"I hate what he did to my sister. I was always there to protect her. I couldnt protect her," said Lori Rasmussen.

The girl allegedly raped by Terapon Adhahn in 2000 watches as Adhahn enters not guilty pleas in charges relating to the crime.
Adhahn also pleaded not guilty to on one count of first degree rape, three counts of second degree rape and three counts of third degree child rape involving a girl who lived with him in Spanaway between 2001 and 2005.
Probable cause documents indicate the girl told investigators that she was raped once or twice a week and that the total number of rapes was somewhere between 150 and 200. In some of the cases the girl, who lived with Adhahn between the ages of 12- and 15-years-old, told police she would sometimes be restrained. She said she ran away after the last rape in which she allegedly told Adhahn "No, I'm not doing that anymore." The documents say "the defendant pointed a gun on her and told her to 'shut up and just do it.""
He also pleaded not guilty to failing to register as a sex offender. He didn't look back at the victim's families.
The Tacoma courtroom was packed, including relatives of Zina Linnik, who was snatched during a neighborhood fireworks display on July 4. Deputy prosecutor Ed Murphy said Thursday he expects to charge Adhahn next week in Zina's abduction and death.

The family of Zina Linnik sits in the front row at Terapon Adhahn's arraignment. Adhahn is suspected of kidnapping and murdering the 12-year-old.
Adhahn was arrested on an immigration violation during the search for Linnik. A week later, police say information given to them by Adhahn's attorney led them to Linnik's body in the area of Silver Lake near Eatonville.
"He should be put to death," said Rasmussen. "We don't need those people walking around. We don't need to put them in jail and have to support them."
On Tuesday, Lakewood Police officially named Adhahn a person of interest in the death of Adre'anna Jackson. The 10-year-old disappeared in December 2005 and was found dead four months later.
Police and FBI are also looking into whether Adhahn is connected to any other missing children's cases in the northwest and around the country.
KING 5 News has learned that police in Arlington, Texas are investigating Adhahn in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Texas girl whose case prompted the AMBER Alert system. Amber Hagerman disappeared in January of 1996, but Arlington Police say they are not sure Adhahn was in the area at that time. A spokesperson says Adhahn is one of many people being investigated in the case.
Taylor Cornyn worked with Adhan at Lee Towing in Tacoma, Adhahn co-founded. She says there were always rumors about Adhahn, but she never thought he was capable of the crimes for which he is now accused.
"I had a question mark on his personality because he gets angry over nothing, but he gets cooled down so easily, also," said Cornyn.

Terapon Adhahn leaves a Pierce County courtroom on Thursday, July 19, 2007, after pleading not guilty to several counts of rape against two different girls.
She was surprised to learn soon after he left the company that the young girl he was living with was not his daughter.
Cornyn says she learned the truth after having a conversation with the girl back in 2005.
"'What happened to you and your dad? I heard you run away,' and she said, 'Yeah I don't live with him anymore,'" said Cornyn.
Michael Myers was Adhahn's former boss at Gene Towing in the early 90's and again in 2003 before leaving to start up Lee Towing.
"He didn't do anything to suspect you of anything, because he was a hard worker," said Myers.
