Everett officer in critical condition following collision
11:27 AM PDT on Monday, July 16, 2007
SEATTLE – An Everett Police K-9 officer is in critical condition after her patrol car was involved in a collision while responding to a call.
According to the police, the female officer, identified as Suzanne Eviston, and her dog, Axel, were responding to a burglary in progress call just after 7 p.m. Sunday night when the collision occurred near the intersection of Hardison Road and Industry Street.
Police say Eviston's unit was T-boned by an SUV, possibly being driven by a suspect fleeing the crime scene.
She has been taken to Harborview Medical Center Hospital with multiple injuries. The dog also suffered a broken leg in the collision.
Police have taken three suspects into custody, the suspect who collided with the officer and two others who were arrested at the nearby business involved in the burglary call.
Police said the suspect is a male in his late teens to early twenties. The vehicle that he was driving had been reported stolen from Kirkland. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be checked for injuries. He has since been released and is now being interviewed by detectives.
The burglary location is a construction site on the east end of Industry Avenue.
