Woman's leg cut off by boat propeller

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. – A woman's leg was cut off by a boat propeller in an accident Saturday afternoon at Dyes Inlet.

A spokesperson from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office says the 45-year-old Seattle woman was standing in 3 feet of water when the incident occurred. She was loading supplies on to a 20-foot motor boat.

When the woman tried to step on the boat, which was idling, she slipped and her leg was cut off below the knee.

The incident happened at 5500 Tracypon Boulevard.

Deputies say the woman was visiting relatives in the area.

She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

No alcohol was involved in the incident.

Kayaker rescued

Rescue crews also pulled a kayaker out of the Green River Saturday near Kanasket Palmer State Park.

Officials with the Kent Fire Department say the Olympia man was kayaking down the river with a group of friends when witnesses say he had some sort of medical event, went underwater and was unconscious. They called 911, initiating a massive response.

The kayaker was lifted up a sharp hillside to safety.

He was said to be in stable condition.
