SEATTLE – Welcome to the reality of gas prices in Western Washington. With just a few exceptions, you're going to pay $4 per gallon minimum to fill up.

"My Oregon trip got canceled this week," said one driver. "I'm gonna stay home."

Now, just before Memorial Day, promotions and Web sites are popping up to help you save gas.

In Everett and Kirkland Thursday, drivers lined up for more than an hour to get $40 in free gas at a pair of gas stations. It was part of a phone company promotion.

"I dropped my kids off at eight at their school and drove right here," said a driver in Everett.

Starting at 6 a.m. Friday, the Washington State Lottery is offering up ten gallons of "free" gas to the first 200 customers at select Safeway gas stations in Auburn, Spokane and Kennewick. The lottery says it's free, but you have to buy a $10 Mega Millions quick pick ticket to take advantage.

Getting the lowest price is what gasbuddy.com is all about. It has a colorful feature called the gas temperature map. It color codes where the price of gas is highest and lowest.

A clerk at one station in SeaTac that's selling regular at $4.28 a gallon expects $6 a gallon by Christmas.

In addition, the state gas tax jumps one-and-a-half cents a gallon starting July 1.

The Safeway gas stations participating in Friday's lottery gas deal are:
