Semi rollover snarls Seattle's I-90 commute

12:53 PM PDT on Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Associated Press

SEATTLE - A semi-tractor trailer rig overturned on Interstate 90 Wednesday morning just as the commute into the downtown Seattle area was heating up.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on westbound I-90 at Rainier Avenue South, just west of the Mount Baker tunnel.

TrafficKING

A rolled over semi tractor-trailer rig blocks all of the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 at Rainier Avenue S. in Seattle. May 16, 2007.

The rollover blocked all of the westbound lanes, causing traffic to back up across the I-90 floating bridge. Traffic was only getting past the truck by using the shoulder.

After about 45 minutes, the Washington State Department of Transportation used a front loader to right the truck and push it to the side of the freeway.  Crews then began to clean up debris and a small amount of spilled oil or diesel fuel.

The accident is under investigation. There is no word on any injuries.
