SEATTLE – The head of a Seattle non-profit devoted to helping women has been accused of helping herself with the group's donated money.

Verbena Health filed a report of embezzlement with Seattle Police claiming its executive director "has been misusing company accounts."

Among the alleged misdeeds, two members on the non-profit's board showed police bank printouts that detail purchases from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Verbena Health, located on Capitol Hill, says on its Web site it is dedicated to "building vibrant communities for lesbians, bisexual and queer women and transgender individuals through health advocacy, education, support services and access of care."

KING 5 contacted Verbena Health for comment. Board member David Haack declined to answer questions regarding the case. "We are in the middle of an investigation," he said, adding he didn't know how long the probe will take.

According to the police report, board members say they had just learned of the alleged embezzlement over the weekend. They told police they were planning on firing the executive director and going to her West Seattle home to take back her work laptop.

As of Monday night, the Verbena Health Web site listed its executive director's bio. It states she joined the non-profit in April, 2006. By Tuesday morning, the Web site had been taken offline.

The purchases from Caesars Palace are from November, 2007. The report does not specify the amount allegedly embezzled.
