SEATTLE – Sabrina, the victim of a sex offender who is now the focus of a nationwide manhunt, was only 15 years old when David Torrence grabbed her off the street and raped her.

Torrence was still on the loose Friday after cutting off his electronic ankle bracelet.

Sabrina is now 29 years old and mother of five. She's both worried and furious.

She worried because she has no idea where her rapist is, and furious that no one told her he was on the loose.

"He grabbed me off the street and drug me behind a vacant house," she said.

Sabrina was raped by David Torrence in a random act of violence 14 years ago. He told her he'd shoot her if she yelled for help.

He went to prison after pleading guilty. So it was a shock for her last night when she found out on the news that the rapist was out of prison and nowhere to be found.

He'd been released Sunday, supposedly to live under a bridge within walking distance of her house.

"I'm terrified, honestly, I feel like a victim all over again," she said. "Nobody can help me, I'm not protected. I don't want to leave my home and I have children that go to school."

On top of that, she learned from TV, Torrence had cut off his GPS tracking bracelet on Wednesday night and the Department of Corrections (DoC) had no idea where he'd gone.

"I was shocked because I wasn't notified, I had no idea," she said.

"It's something that we need to look at very seriously, and something we need to change," said Anna Aylward, Department of Corrections.

DoC officials were apologetic Friday when KING 5 told them Sabrina's story, but said they had done a good job in the past of letting her know of Torrence's whereabouts since he was first released for the rape.

They had promised Sabrina that she would be notified if he went back in or out of custody.

Torrence has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for drug trafficking, aggravated assault and felony criminal threats in Ohio and Kansas. Then came the rape of Sabrina in Washington, followed by convictions for drugs, theft, and failure to register as a sex offender four separate times. He has 10 felonies in all.

Sabrina hadn't heard of any of his prison releases since 2002.

"That's ridiculous, I'm appalled by that. I had no idea," she said. "I find that really unfair that I am a victim and I was supposed to be protected and they failed me."

The DoC says Sabrina didn't get notified of Torrence's escape because the electronic monitoring of sex offenders is such a new program.

Sabrina talked to KING 5 to bring awareness to the public that if you see David Torrence, call 911.
