Man shot multiple times in drive-by
05:24 PM PDT on Tuesday, April 8, 2008
KENT, Wash. - Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man multiple times in the parking lot of an apartment complex Tuesday morning.
It happened around 11 a.m. at the Lake Meridian Apartments at 146th and Kent Kangley Road.
Police say the tenant and her boyfriend pulled into a parking spot in the woman's Mercedes. That's when someone pulled up and shot at the car several times, hitting the boyfriend as he sat in the passenger seat.
"I seen a gentleman leaning over a car and actually continued to shoot several more times into the car and then he took off running," said apartment manager Barbara Milton.
"Pretty intense. There were like six of them (shots) I think," said resident Stephanie Shaw.
As soon as the victim was hit, his girlfriend drove over the lawn, out the complex and to Valley Medical Center in Covington. The 26-year-old was stabilized and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to undergo surgery. He is expected to survive.
"He was shot in the foot, the leg, in the buttocks a couple of times, and possibly once in the face," said Kent Police spokesperson Paul Petersen.
Neighbors say the victim is well-dressed, well-mannered and is never one to cause any problems. The girlfriend is seven or eight months pregnant.
Police and K-9 units were brought in to search the apartment complex.
The suspect vehicle is described as an older model blue Chevy Astrovan with tinted windows.
Police believe the victim was targeted and the shooting is not random. They also say the apartment complex is not usually a trouble spot.
