Couple found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning

10:08 PM PST on Wednesday, February 9, 2005

From KING Staff

OLYMPIA, Wash. - An older couple was found dead in their home south of Olympia on Wednesday, apparently of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

A family member came to the home of Daniel and Nona Holm Wednesday morning and found the 67-year-old man, the 64-year-old woman and the family dog dead.

Police said it looked as though somebody simply forgot to turn off the engine of a vehicle at the home.

"The theory is that this is a tragic accident, that the vehicle was accidentally left running during the evening and the victims were overcome by carbon monoxide sometime, probably in the night," said Dan Kimball of the Thurston Co. Sheriff's Office.

It was not known whether the Hones knew what happened. There was no carbon monoxide detector in the home.

The Hones were longtime residents of the area. They moved there from Alaska after retiring as teachers.

"It's going to be a big loss," said a neighbor.
