More people spilling secrets online

SEATTLE – If a lie or mistake is eating away at you, sometimes it's best to confess.
Now there are Web sites that let you clear your conscience, anonymously. Cyber confession booths are popping up all over the place.
"There are all kinds of things that people confess to," said Greg Fox, creator of DailyConfession.com. "Theft at work, theft from their spouses, fear of things that go bump in the night. A lot of them are about adultery."

Fox gets about 300 e-mails on the site every day.
"This is literally the car wreck on the side of the road that you can't help but look at as you go by," he said.
People post their confessions, and other people can look at them and leave feedback. But the authors of the Web sites say no one will find out who you are.
"These sites are extremely addictive the same way that reality shows are addictive," said Larry Rosen, author of "Me, MySpace and I." "We like to look at what other people do wrong or other people do where they make mistakes."
But doctor Rosen believes the sites can be cathartic, too.
"You can put on there exactly what you did wrong, why you think it was wrong, and then what happens is you get it out of your brain and onto the Internet and you feel better," he said.
The downside is - people leave some pretty brutal feedback, especially when it comes to cheating on a spouse. But some of it is helpful.
"I think a lot of people can find comfort in the fact that they're not the only weird ones in the world, you know," said Heather Lissor, who reads online confessions. "Everyone has their bizarre secrets."
While there are too many sites to list, a few are Group Hug, True Military Wives Confessions and DailyConfession.com They are free to use.
Sites like these have increased 60 percent compared to the same time last year.
