Second I-5 birth in two days

04:22 PM PST on Tuesday, January 30, 2007

KING 5 News and Associated Press

SEATTLE - A woman gave birth on Seattle's I-5 at Boeing Access Road Tuesday morning, en route to the hospital.

The dad had pulled over and motioned to a Washington state trooper to help

"I went up to the driver’s side and I can hear his wife screaming and she was lying back in the passenger seat and then after that I went over to the passenger side door and she'd already delivered the baby -- it was that quick," said Trooper Chad Phillips of the Washington State Patrol.

Juliette was born Monday morning on I-5 while her dad battled morning commuters.

He said it was a cute baby girl. He placed the baby on the mother's lap and assisted until Tukwila Fire Department medics arrived.

Both mother and baby are doing well at Highline Medical Center. The patrol said Wendy Neba, and father, Magin Rodriguez, of Burien, named their daughter Alexa

On Monday, Liz Kirkman had her baby in the back of a van in the carpool lane of I-5, while her husband frantically tried to get her to Swedish Medical Center from Snohomish. Liz delivered an 8-pound girl while her husband Brian kept driving.

Liz said she didn't tell Brian what was happening because she wanted him to drive safely.

They were okay after arriving at the hospital with newborn daughter Juliette.
