Snow in forecast for the weekend
04:45 PM PST on Thursday, January 24, 2008
SEATTLE - The cold weather continues today in Western Washington and we could see some significant snowfall in some areas before the weekend is over.

KING 5 Meteorologist Jeff Renner says the weekend, particularly Saturday, looks "interesting, to put it mildly."
Renner says moist air moving northward from the remnants of a low off the California coast will collide with cool/dry air in place and colder air from a disturbance moving southward through Canada, setting the stage for some snow.
"Depending upon the exact timing of the moisture, the precipitation could begin as snow or a mix of snow and rain," said Renner.

Renner says there will likely be a mix of rain and snow on into Saturday afternoon.
"The potential certainly exists for several inches of snow," he says. But, he says, this far out it's hard to predict which areas in Western Washington will be most likely to see any accumulations.
As the frontal system pushes through overnight Saturday, it will bring warmer Pacific air inland and change precipitation in most areas to rain.
Late Saturday night, much colder air will move into Western Washington for rain or snow showers during the day on Sunday.
Colder air will move in on Sunday, again bringing the chance for snow showers on into Monday morning.
Portland
As of early Thursday afternoon, temperatures in Portland had not managed to rise above freezing. The likelihood of snow at low city elevations Thursday evening melted away to only a remote chance.
"A weak weather system is bringing clouds to the area, but no precipitation," said KGW Meteorologist Dave Salesky.
Friday is expected to bring another dry, sunny day.
"More organized weather systems will arrive this weekend. Rain and cool temperatures will be the rule. Snow showers will fall, but above the valley floor. Snow levels will hover between 1,000 to 2,000 feet most of next week," Salesky said.
Spokane
In the Spokane area, it will remain cold, with temperatures in the single digits overnight and highs in the 20s. The wind chill this morning was -12.
On Saturday afternoon there is a 30 percent chance of snow, but by Saturday night, that increases to 80 percent, with heavy snow accumulations possible.
The chance of snow continues through midweek.
