Jackknifed semis cause I-90 closure

NORTH BEND, Wash. - A series of accidents including semis, cars and a trooper's vehicle shut down westbound I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass Tuesday. Traffic backed up for more than 3 miles.
For a time Tuesday afternoon, I-90 was closed between milepost 34 and milepost 40 because of five semi-truck spinouts.
In one crash, a semi jackknifed and hit a Washington State Patrol car.
The State Patrol said a trooper in an unmarked car had pulled over to put out flares for an accident when an Atlas Van Lines semi lost control.
"He slid sideways, as he was sliding sideways down I-90 he sideswiped the trooper's patrol car. He then jacknifed and came to rest, blocking all westbound lanes," said Trooper Jeff Merrill.

Several semi trucks jacknifed on westbound Interstate 90.
That crash triggered other accidents.
No one was seriously injured in any of the accidents.
Traffic was backed up for miles.
"I don't think we'll get this road clear anytime soon," said Trooper Jeff Merrill.
The Department of Transportation said on I-90, traction tires are required and chains are required on vehicles over 10,000 gross vehicle weight.
