There was a lot of chatter on social media Saturday night from people reporting what they thought was a meteor streaking across the sky, but as of Sunday afternoon there was still no confirmation.

The fireball was seen at about 8:20 p.m.

More than 100 people from British Columbia to Oregon reported the sighting on the American Meteor Society"Report a Fireball" website.

Reports came from cities including Seattle, Wenatchee, Everett, Bellingham, Portland and Victoria, B.C.

On the KING 5 Facebook page, hundreds of people reported seeing the light.

"It was mostly west and slightly north appearing to have a near completely vertical trajectory," said Nathan Beight, who was in Yakima. "It ended in a nice emerald green and breaking apart. The light show also went out before it made it behind the hill it was over. Very cool."

From Emily Nudelman: "Around 8:20pm, west of Cle Elum we were driving down the freeway and saw a fireball arching down to Earth slowly (right in front of us, getting larger as it went) then suddenly it changed speed and direction and shot off in a split second, parallel with the freeway, and disappeared."

And Carlee Simmons said "We were at a football game at Marysville Getchell High School late tonight and it streaked across the western sky. Seemed like a shooting star but lasted a very long time."

There were some photos posted on various websites, but they could not be authenticated.

There was no word from NASA on Sunday, and it's not known if the light was a meteor or space junk.
