A suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Kent.
The incident began near Central Ave. N. at about 11:30 a.m.
Kent Police said officers responded to a report of a suspicious subject. Canines tracked the armed man to a commercial area on Highway 167.
Gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was shot and killed.
We had five officers involved in this officer-involved shooting, said Derek Kammerzell. The suspect is now deceased, but within the gunfight a container of some sort of volatile material exploded.
It's a greenhouse that belongs to a landscaping company, so that's the concern now, said Kammerzell.
The officers may have been exposed to dangerous chemicals. One had burns to his arm, the other to the back of his head.
Kammerzell said the Fire Department was working with the Department of Ecology and the owner of the business to determine what kinds of chemicals may have been involved.
