Temple Grandin, a hero in the autism movement and a professor and author, joined KING 5 in studio to talk about her new book, The Autistic Brain.

Grandin will talk about her new book at 7:30 p.m. Monday night at the Great Hall in Seattle. The event is sold out, but there will be a limited number of standby tickets available.

Grandin is regarded as a hero to many for her various achievements. Grandin has autism and has been named to Time Magazine s list of 100 influential people.

In her new book, she stresses that autism is a very large spectrum and that there are different kinds of jobs for different kinds of minds.

Grandin attributes her success in part to mentors she had growing up and practical skills she learned in school.

The worst thing they ever did was take out art, shop, cooking, sewing that s the worst thing the schools ever did, said Grandin. These classes teach practical problem solving. If I hadn t had these classes in school I would have gone absolutely no where.
