Sounder train riders in Edmonds may no longer have to risk missing their train while searching for parking starting Monday.

Sound Transit plans to open 53 additional temporary spaces near the station to ease congestion and entice more commuters to use the train to get to work. The lot at the station only has enough room for 156 spaces now.

The temporary spaces will be available until 103 permanent spaces can be constructed and made available May 1.

Sound Transit is trying to fill empty seats on the North Sounder line after a citizen overnight panel suggested tax dollars are under-used on the route between Everett and Seattle.

Passengers say it will be well worth it.

On the 3rd or 4th train of the day, it s ugly around here, said Janet Fife. You can see people pulling in then driving away because there is no parking.

Sound Transit reports ridership from Edmonds to Everett grew 18 percent in the third quarter this year compared to the same period last year.
