GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- Firefighters battled a brush fire Wednesday afternoon that burned near 12 homes. The flames were first reported around 3:30 p.m. near 180th Avenue and 144th Street.
Neighbors Martha Taylor and Katy Absteen could see the smoke from their house.
Maybe they have it under control by now. I hope so, said Absteen.
By Wednesday night the situation was still uncertain, according Key Peninsula Fire Chief Tom Lique.
We are continuing to chase it through the bushes until we can get in front of it and get a good fire line, said Chief Lique, who added that access is difficult. The fire is burning in an area with thick brush.
Overnight the plan for firefighters is to keep rolling in resources like heavy equipment and water trucks.
No injuries were reported. No homes were damaged in this fire.
