OLYMPIA A survey of thousands of Washington residents conducted by the Washington State Transportation Commission has found that the vast majority would be willing to spend more on transportation.

A resounding 86 percent of those surveyed believe effective transportation, both in the present and the future, is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed. Sixty percent would be willing to consider increased taxes and fees to make sure transportation is adequately funded.

The number of people willing to spend more on transportation is up nine percent from a similar survey conducted last year. Residents give Washington s transportation system a C-minus on average, with only 20 percent saying it was above average, down six percent from last year.

Major issues that citizens want to see addressed include infrastructure, reducing congestion and expanding transit.
