EVERETT - The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Wednesday to approve a US military strike against Syria. Any action will be watched closely by hundreds of families in Western Washington.
It s a very emotional time, but we re doing the best we can, concerned Katie Karaffa Wednesday night. The mother of two young children is married to Lt. Tyler Karaffa, currently serving on board the USS Nimitz. The US Navy recently moved the aircraft carrier, along with the Everett-based destroyer, the USS Shoup, into the Red Sea to prepare for possible action.
Katie, who also served in the Navy, says she is confident of the sailors, her husband, and the action abroad.
I do believe our country is the best country in the world, and we re trying to help whoever needs help, says Karaffa.
The Nimitz deployed from Everett earlier this spring. It is unclear how any potential action would impact it s return to the home port.
