A writing project at ScriberLake high School in Edmonds hasturned into a powerful experience for everyone who took part-- and inspired a book of short stories you won't soon forget.
The book is called We Are Absolutely Not Okay:FourteenStories by Teenagers Who are Picking up the Pieces, and covers a wide range of topics, including: gang life, drug abuse and sexual identity. What makes this book so real and raw: every story is based on each student's actual experience.
Three of the authors: Jordan Meador, Amelia Dahlen and Tebra Draper joined Meeghan to share their stories and messages for other teenagers who may be in similar situations. Several other student authors joined us in the audience, along with teacher Marjie Bowker and mentor Ingrid Ricks, author of the powerful memoir, Hippie Boy: A Girl's Story.
The students will hold a book launch party tonight from 5:00 - 7:00pm at Revelations Yogurt in Edmonds (527 Main Street, Edmonds).
