LACEY, Wash. -- A driver slammed his car into a Lacey mobile home Tuesday morning, killing a teenager sleeping inside. A man was taken into custody late Tuesday.

Lacey police say an off-duty officer from another agency made contact with Bobby Glenn Hicks, 27, and took him to the Lacey Police Department. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail for investigation of Vehicular Homicide and Hit and Run. He's likely to be in court Wednesday.

Police say the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ruddel Road SE and 45th Avenue SE. A driver was speeding on 45th Avenue South and did not stop at the intersection. The driver ended up crashing through a fence and the car smashed into the mobile home.

Sixteen-year-old Austin C. Blankenship was killed. The teen's parents were in the home and were not hurt.

Police say the driver and his passenger took off on foot. Police dogs couldn't find the suspect. The passenger was picked up in eastern Thurston County and was being questioned.

A neighbor reportedly said power was out at the time of the crash at 12:30 and the driver may have not seen the street end at the mobile home park.

Neighbors say the streets in front of the mobile home have been plagued with problems. The manager of the mobile home park says he has complained to the city.

We've had numerous accidents on this corner, said Don Shoemaker.

This house next door has been hit three different times, said Willene Craig.

I don't know what we can do at this point. Maybe this will wake somebody up, said Shoemaker.
