Governor Inslee signed legislation Friday to help foster kids in Washington following a KING 5 investigation.

For the first time ever, the bill gives some foster children a legal voice in court.

The KING 5 series Fostering Justice showed how Washington state ranked last in the country in protecting the rights of foster kids.

The new law means some foster children will automatically get an attorney. This will give them a voice in court, where life-changing decisions are made for them, such as where they will live.

Child advocates fought for years to get this legislation passed, but all previous efforts had failed.
