Thursday night,Central Districtresidents seeking more information came together.
It is not all in the hands of police. It's what we have to do as a community, said East Precinct Advisory Council President Stephanie Tschida.
Tschidahelps organize monthly community gatherings. This month, the new EastPrecinct Captain, Mike Edwards, joined the conversation. He said there have been a number of shootings in the last six weeks.
We've had roughly 7 or 8 in this area, said Captain Edwards.
One shooting happened early Wednesday morning, blocks away from Seattle University. A bullet to the chest sent a man to the hospital. Police made an arrest in connection with the shooting.
Detectives said some of the recent criminal activity is gang related.
A majority of the reported incidents are happening off campus. However, last week on campus a male student was attacked by three people and stabbedin an alleged robbery attempt. The Seattle University student is recovering. The suspects were arrested.
The next community meeting will be held at Seattle University inChardin Hall on February 27th, 6:30 p.m.
