OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington state's political leaders are optimistic that they will reach a budget deal this weekend.
Gov. Jay Inslee said Friday that he was looking to call lawmakers in for joint negotiations on Saturday morning. He said there were many items unresolved in the budget talks but that there has been significant movement toward an agreement.
Political leaders are seeking to finalize a spending plan this weekend, just days before the new budget cycle begins on July 1. If there's no budget deal reached by the end of the month, state leaders expect they would have to shut down much of state government.
