Several Washington state ferry runs were canceled Monday due to crew members not showing up for work. Sources later said the staffing shortages were not a case of an organized work slowdown, but the result of a number of coincidental circumstances.

The 5:45 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. sailing from Vashon Island for Fauntleroy, and the 6:10 a.m. sailing from Fauntleroy to Vashon were canceled, along with the 5:30 a.m. sailing from Mukilteo to Clinton.

One angry commuter on Vashon Island said in an email at 6:30 a.m. that over 200 cars were in line at the dock.

The ferry Kitsap on the Seattle-Bremerton route had no galley service Monday due to staffing problems.

There has been no official word about what led to Monday's staffing issues.

Monday s problems come after months of a perfect staffing record, but which followed a spike of canceled runs last year because people didn t show up for work or because of dispatch errors during a time of tension between labor and management.
