PUYALLUP, Wash. - There's a growing memorial to the slain Powell boys at the elementary school they attended in Puyallup.

Dozens of people gathered at Carson Elementary to place candles, stuffed animals, balloons and messages out front. Seven-year-old Charlie was a student at the school.

Todd Hayden is a recess supervisor at the school. He says a fallen branch became one of Charlie's favorite toys this week.

So Todd came back to look for the branch.

Sure enough it was right on top of the stack and everything, just sitting there, and it was just pretty scary and special and eerie in a quiet playground, he said.

The boys died Sunday afternoon in a fast-moving fire at their father's home. Authorities say it's apparent that Josh Powell set the fire deliberately. Powell was a person of interest in his wife's disappearance two years ago from the home they shared in West Valley City, Utah.

Josh Powell was recently denied custody of the boys, who had been living with Susan's parents for several months, ever since Josh Powell's father was arrested in a voyeurism case.
