Former Washington basketball player Melissa Erickson passed away on Wednesday after a seven-year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. She was 34 years old.

Erickson played in 92 games at UW from 1997 to 2001. During her senior season, she tore her ACL as the Huskies went on to win the Pac-10 championship and advanced to the Elite Eight.

She was diagnosed with ALS in 2006, and given up to ten years to live.

In 2009, Chris Egan profiled Melissa, and how she fought her battle against ALS.
