Boeing plans to cut 1,500 positions over the next three years. All of them are information technology jobs here in the Puget Sound region.

It was back in March when the company began restructuring its IT Department, but this is the first time Boeing has given any specific numbers as to just how many jobs are on the chopping block.

Spokesman Andrew Favreau tells KING5 that many of the cuts will be shed through attrition and retirement. Boeing also plans to move some jobs to centers in Missouri and South Carolina.

He says managers were briefed last week, and the company will hold a webcast on Monday, to provide details to all IT employees.

There are about 4,700 Boeing ITjobs in Western Washington. Most of them are non-union jobs.

Favreau says some of the affected employees will be eligible for a voluntary lay-off. In return, they'll be given a severance package.

The governor, lawmakers, and city leaders throughout the Puget Sound have voiced concern that additional jobs could be shipped to other states. A 787 assembly plant is already operating in South Carolina.

The 1,500 ITpositions that will be cut include Boeing engineers and developers.
