Santa's workshop has nothing on the FedEx warehouse.

It's busy, but a fun time, said FedEx driver Tara Spates.

Long before dawn the music is blasting, the workers are smiling and the scanner is working overtime.

It's my 25th Christmas here, said Spates.

Spates has been through many busy shipping seasons, but she's never seen one quite like this. That's because FedEx is getting set to record its busiest day in history.

It's kind of organized chaos said Rick Cook, operations manager.

The shipping company expects to move 19 million packages Monday; that's nearly 200 per second.

The reason for the increase in shipping is a surge in online shopping.

A lot of cell phones, a lot of iPads, said Spates.

Online holiday sales are forecast to climb 17% compared to last year according to researchers at eMarketers. All of this e-commerce is putting smiles on the faces of Santa's delivery-service helpers.

A lot of things will be driven off of this day throughout peak. Peak is a very profitable time for us, said Rick Cook.

FedEx expects to ship a total of 280 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a 13% increase from last year, turning the shopping season into the shipping season.
