A recent study found acetaminophen use in pregnancy may be linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. But before you toss out your Tylenol, it's important to put this study in perspective.

Some believe acetaminophen may be a hormone disruptor. The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics, followed more than 60,000 Danish children. It found children were at a higher risk for ADHD when their mothers usedacetaminophen. Frequent use and use in multiple trimesters also impacted the risk.

The study shows a link, however it doesn't proveacetaminophen causes ADHD in children.

What Moms Need to Know:

  • Every medicine has a mixture of benefit and risk
  • This study doesn't prove Tylenol causes ADHD, don't over interpret
  • Talk with OB about medications you use
  • Use medications as little and for as short period possible during pregnancy
