All Nippon Airways wants Boeing to compensate it in cash, rather than future purchase discounts, for losses it incurred due to the grounding of Boeing s 787, Reuters reports.

All 50 of the 787 s that were in service around the world were grounded for two months due to problems with the plane s lithium-ion batteries. ANA has 17 of those planes and has reportedly canceled 3,600 flights to the end of May.

Reuters, citing a person with knowledge of ANA s intentions, said the airline would prefer to get cash, but added that talks about compensation have yet to begin.

An ANA spokesperson said nothing has been decided regarding talks with Boeing.
