A company suddenly scrubbed plans to build a massive and controversial water bottling plant in Anacortes.

Anacortes Mayor on Tuesday confirmed to KING 5 News that Tethys Enterprises has withdrawn plans to build the 1 million square foot plant that would bottle 60 different brands of beverages, including water pulled from the Skagit River.

Opponents mounted a strong fight against the plant, saying it would deplete drinking water sources, increase traffic and noise in the area south of Highway 20.

The Letter from Tethys indicates other business opportunities came up but there was strong momentum and support for the project.
