VANCOUVER Police are looking for two people who are unaccounted for and may be associated with a woman whose body was recovered from the Columbia River Friday.

The unidentified woman was found by a fish and wildlife patrol officer just after 10 a.m. near the I-205 Glenn Jackson Bridge.

Kim Kapp with Vancouver police said the woman had on kayaking gear. Searchers found a two-person kayak not far away on Government Island.

There was no sign of foul play, according to police.

It seems likely there was some sort of a boating accident where the people were discharged out, Vancouver Police Sgt. Scott Creager said. The water today according to officers on the sheriff s boat is about 40 degrees, so I don t imagine a person would survive very long in that type of environment without the proper clothing and she did not have the type of clothing that would sustain her very long.

The victim appeared to be an Asian female in her early 50s, dressed in outdoor clothing and wearing a floatation device, police said.

Searchers from Multnomah and Clark counties were investigating.

Anyone with information was asked to call Vancouver Police Major Crimes Sgt. Scott Creager at (360) 487-7424.

A vehicle owned by one of the people was located at a kayak launch in Oregon and a yellow kayak is missing from one of their homes, said Sgt. Scott Creager with Vancouver police.
