A 41-year-old man died Thursday night in Puyallup after being hit by a car at the busy intersection of River Road and North Meridian.
Police say a 64-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide. Investigators believe he was impaired by narcotics, speeding, and driving recklessly in the moments leading up to the crash.
The street was shut down for hours as police worked at the scene. The accident happened just after 7 p.m.
Police say suspect ran a red light and hit the pedestrian as he walked through a crosswalk.
From there, police say the driver hit two parked cars, hopped a curb, then hit a third car and pushed it into a fourth vehicle, a pick-up truck, before finally coming to a stop several hundred yards away.
There are several cameras posted at the intersection, which will likely be used to help officers piece together what happened.
The victim died at the scene. Police tell KING5 he worked at the Ford car dealership on River Road and was returning to work when he was hit and killed.
The driver suspected of hitting him was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out. He was not seriously injured.
