For the first time since the murder of Army Specialist Tevin Geike, his family is speaking out about his death. Geike's mother and brother joined several of his friends for a vigil in his honor on Friday night.

The 20-year-old was stabbed to death last Saturday in Lakewood, allegedly by another soldier.

His loved ones gathered at the spot where he lost his life on Pacific Highway Southwest.

They spent nearly two hours quietly singing and sharing stories.

His smile, his funny attitude, and how much he loves his family. All of them, whether they were blood or not, said his mother Melinda, who told the crowd she'd reconnected with her son in just the last few years.

Tevin's brother Michael thanked the two other soldiers who were with him when he was stabbed, and made sure he didn't die alone.

Thank you for being there, he said. Thank you for showing my brother love in his final moments.

Authorities have arrested three soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in connection to Geike s death.

Geike, of Summerville, SC, was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division.

According to unit records, Spc. Geike entered the Army in October 2010 and arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in April 2011.
