A former King County deputy has been arrested for possession of stolen property, drugs, theft, and tampering with evidence.

KIRO Radio, our media partner, identifies the deputy as 33-year-old Mitchell J. Wright. The sheriff would not confirm the deputy's name but did say an arrest was made Monday morning.

In 2006, Wright received Shoreline's officer of the year award, after making more than 150 arrests of suspects in felony narcotics violations, stolen cars, and other serious crimes. His superiors at the time described him as someone who has the heart of a lion, excellent police instincts, and the willingness to risk his safety in order to serve the citizens of Shoreline.

The ten-year-old veteran of the King County Sheriff's Office was arrested at his home in Bothell.

The arrest came out of an unrelated internal investigation into allegations the deputy was using government computer systems to access information against department policy.

The investigation is on-going and charges have not yet been filed.

Deputy Wright resigned last month in lieu of termination, as the initial internal investigation got underway.
