Jockey Kevin Krigger rides from Western Washington into the Kentucky Derby with hopes of becoming the first black jockey to win in more than a century.

Not too many African Americans have had the chance to ride in the Kentucky Derby since 1902, said Krigger. I want to make my first time a winning ride and change that part of history.

Krigger was Jockey of the Year at Emerald Downs in 2005. KING 5's Allen Schauffler talk with some local jockeys who used to race against him.

Krigger will be aboard Goldencents. The colt is partly owned by Rick Pitino, whose Cardinals won the NCAA championship last month. The coach recently got elected to basketball's Hall of Fame, so a Derby win would complete the ultimate trifecta.
